Wifes debt before we married

As the title-am i liable for my wifes debt which she had before we got married.We recently applied for a loan and although my search came back ok my wifes has shown up some previous debts from where she lived previously.Am i now responsible for these now we are married and had nothing to do with them.The house is in my name not joint names if this is any help.Any info would be much appreciated.Thanks

No you are not liable for any debts in your wife's individual name. Whether run up before or after you got married.

If she has a poor credit history and this still shows on her credit file then it would be advisable not to have any joint accounts or joint loans etc with her, as that could affect your ability to get accepted for new credit products.

If your wife needs some advice or help dealing with her debts then you may wish to recommend she registers on here and posts on the Debt-Free Wannabe section of the forum.
