Hello,
I am getting carpet fitted and here are the details -
1. 72 Sq Meters including stair runner (straight flight of stairs no bend)
2. New Underlay everywhere, use of existing grippers except - in small box room (which is about 5-6 sq. meters where there are currently just painted floorboards
3. I'll be moving all smaller furniture myself, only 2 beds will be left for the fitter to work around
4. I'll be disposing the carpets myself
The quote is £302.50, is this fair? This is in East London - IG8

Last time I had carpet fitted, the rule of them was circa £2 per sq mt and then £20 on top for stairs as they are tricky.
This is pure labour only, no materials
Then take into account minimum spend etc.
Based on this £300 does seem a little high.
Maybe get a couple more quotes, see what the market is charging?0 -
Thank you, this is labor only quote (Underlay & Carpet), and comes to about £4 (if we ignore the stairs).
If you don't mind me asking - where is this property you did carpet fitting done based?0 -
I'm based in Leicester.
But if you do a google search for somehting like "average cost per square meter to fit carpets", you'll see £2 mentoned quite a few times in different places.
The cost of the fitting will be a small proportion of the cost of the carpet and underlay - which unless you are going ultra cheap, would be around £15 per sq mt for both.
So if I were you, buy from a shop that offers fitting and negotiate the total price of everything down.
That way you know you are getting good quality materials and the same shop can be help responsible for the fitting quality too.0 -
I manage to bring this down to £250, so including stairs and some extra work required in the box room (where there is currently no carpet) - this seem like a good deal with Carpet and Underlay.
It is an old house and no room a perfect rectangle so that has been factored in as well.0
