I've been looking for a machine my daughter can use, or just a guard to put on my sewing machine, but i've not really found anything.
Would an overlocker be a safer machine to use, are the neddles more out of the way, could be the perfect excuse for me to get one.

I'm not sure about an over locker as I don't have one, but Its a good excuse as any to buy one!
My daughter uses my sewing machine under my supervision and she's been fine on it. Although I won't allow her on it without me being next to her.
She's currently seven, but has been using it since she was six.

Hi
I used to have an old Singer hand machine that was wonderful to use with children. I don't have it now and really miss it especially as i have two young children. I have considered buying a new one but lack the space to put it.
I wouldn't recommend an overlocker - there is a cutting blade as well as the needles.
My seven year old son loves to 'help' with my regular machine but does not use it yet. He is getting familiar with the workings of it though.
