You really need to research your idea - my High St has too many shops empty which had been a good idea. Who are your competitors, can you offer something extra ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

And avoid building a business model based on being the cheapest - your competitors will just drop their prices and it will be a race to the bottom.
And if there are no competitors, WHY are there no competitors - what do other people know that you dont?0 -
Thank you to everyone who replied and sorry I forgot to include what I was thinking of actually doing, I posted this before I went to bed sorry and was tired. The business I am looking to start is a printing and graphic design business, so it's just computers and printers I need to get it up and running.
Interesting... So is it just going to be digital print, or will you be screen printing too?0 -
£500 for a computer is nothing. If I was OP, I'd be thinking £1000+ I think that a MacPro costs about £4000.So a couple of heavy duty computers @ £500 each, four big screens @ £500 each, large industrial photo quality printer - maybe £2000-5000?
If you're doing graphic design, you need proper computers.0 -
Also, advice would be to open near a university/ art college. Sure, they have their own facilities, but especially at peek points during the year they will be very busy and so will you. We always used the independent printers when I was doing my degree, and they were always packed.0

I worked in a printer's business space (another business the boss owned). He had somebody quoting for printing work, a bloke running two digital machines and one of those old-fashioned ink machines, two people on the retail counter with Internet cafe space and two designers. I think there was somebody else too, who did van driving, paper tidying, boxing up, print finishing, laminating.
He'd been in business in the town "forever". Everybody used them, all the local firms and hotels and everybody used them.
He had a building he owned outright, with high visibility, right on the main road, so anybody coming into town would see it - right next to a supermarket and with its own parking too.
He also needed a van to deliver/collect proofs and drop off boxes of printed matter.
No money in it - he was sticking his hand in his pocket every month to cover the bills, before he finally gave up and sold it.0
