Italian or German kitchens with 'pocket doors'

We are extending our terrace and we are currently looking at kitchens. We have fallen in love with a handleless kitchen by the Spanish company, Mobalco which has pocket doors, BUT at £40k it is out of our budget

So we are on the hunt for a quality, modern kitchen that must have pocket doors (sometimes known as 'folding and sliding doors'), but we'd like to stick below £20k (all in, inc. appliances and work tops).

Can anyone help with suggestions of kitchen brands?

First kitchen post, so thanks in advance! :j

I can assure you with a very high level of certainty that you wont find a kitchen with pocket sliding doors incl worktops and appliances for £20k. These mechanisms are quite expensive and units from this range usually are the most expensive in any manufacturers catalogue.

Also be careful about what you buy as the doors have to be strengthened to be used with these mechanisms to prevent warping and a lot of manufacturers dont do this.

  • I had a horrible feeling someone would say that Ryder 72 😣!

We probably need to rethink our budget, but I am sure that someone must do it more cheaply than Mobalco on Wigmore Street!!? We are looking at Hacker, although I would love some suggestions for other brands to look at.

The kitchen is about a six meter run and a small island. We'd probably be looking for four pocket doors (two double opening). Help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again 😊

I can't exactly place what you mean, but would you consider approaching a local joiner?
If you look online at companies like Ironmonger Direct or Hafele, you will see loads of cabinet hardware. We used these, but as DH made the cabinets himself, I don't have a clue what a tradesman would charge.
    Have you looked at Howdens?
  • Thanks Jackyann, we have used Howdens in the past, but not quite what we are after this time. We could consider speaking with a joiner, but having spoken to a bespoke kitchen company and discussing the mechanism, we'd like to go with a kitchen brand that has experience of the pocket door mechanism. :)

Unless you use a cabinet maker who knows what they are talking about, this isnt just one of those - yes I can knock it up jobs.

A typical pocket door housing would be 700 deep, 700 wide for a 60cm oven housing. The supplier we deal with requires appliances being fitted and if they are on 16A supplies, they require electric safety breakers for safety.

Sadly pocket door systems is the preserve of the higher spec European brands and they are generally going to on Wigmore St.

Sorry I cant be more positive.

    Hi

I have to agree with Ryder72, pocket retractable doors are generally the realms of more expensive kitchens.

We have the system on display in both of our showrooms and recently exhibited at the Grand Designs Live show at Excel where we displayed a kitchen with a double and a single system. We sell a fair few kitchens with them and they are best fitted by fitters with experience of fitting them.

This might be a bit forward of me but I am looking to sell off one of my displays with the pocket door system, I haven't done anything about marketing it yet but nevertheless I would like to sell it and replace with another.

Please send me a pm if you would like more information.
