Hi folks,
I installed a usb 3.0 card in my desktop computer to take advantage of faster transfer speeds to my WD my passport portable drive.
I have 2 internal hard drives in my computer with a windows 7 installation on both. On one of the drives (newest one) windows sees the expansion usb card as usb 3 but on other older internal drive only sees it as usb 2.0.
I have tried lots of things reinstalling the drivers for it etc but no good still only usb 2.0
Just wondering is it possible its because the older internal WD drive is only 2.0 compatable?
Thanks for any advice.

What do you mean the internal drives 'see' the card as usb 2?
Internal drives don't connect using USB. They won't 'see' the USB card at all.0 -
The OP means that one installation of Windows 7 (on a newer HDD) shows the USB 3.0 port as USB 3.0 but the other installation of Windows 7 (on the older drive) shows 2.0.
The age of the HDD should have no effect on this as far as I am aware. The only effect should be the OS, for example if you had a pre-3.0 version of Windows on your PC then it wouldn't recognise it and you would need to upgrade the OS.
This seems a strange one to me especially as the rest of the PC is all the same. My first thought if you hadn't already tried it would be drivers. The other option is are both versions of the HDD running the same updated version of Windows 7? If you only run one occasionally then it my not have the latest updates. If there is a known bug for this it may have been fixed in an update but the older drive doesn't have the update installed. Have you tried running Windows updates?0 -

You can get cards with a USB internal connection so you can attach USB devices internally.0 -

Yes but the OP states external passport drive, and the only "possible" solution is that the "two internal drives" have different W7 installs , but AFAIK all W7 systems will recognise USB3, so I too am confused
Yes I know I was just saying that you can get them because of what cookie365 said.0
