Plumbing quote

I'm looking to get my washing machine plumbed out to our external garage. There's electrics, but no water out there at present.
The garage is detached to the rear corner of the house. All the water pipes and sewage pipes are at the rear of the house.
So there's two parts to the job:
So far I've only managed to get one company who were willing to take on the work (presumably due to the groundworks needed for the waste-water), and they've quoted £2835 plus VAT (i.e. £3400).
I'm in Northern Ireland, if that has any impact on the likely cost.
Any idea? Good? Bad? More info needed?

So there's two parts to the job:
- Plumb a cold-water pipe from the house to the garage. The suggestion is for this pipe to come out the back of the house, across a brick gateway into the roof of the garage and from there to the far end of the garage, approximately 4-5 metres in total
- Returning the waste-water to the sewage manhole, approximately 3 metres. This will involve digging up the garden and making good.

I don't know about the price, but here in England you would also need building control involvement and a certificate after the work has been done (for the new waste water system).0

Is it really worth it just for a washing machine?0

Our kitchen is smaller than we'd like, and prior to getting a new one fitted later this year we thought we'd try and remove the washer from the space. Obviously at that price its definitely NOT worth it - we'd been naively hoping for sub-£1k!
I'm not sure on the NI building control rules, but yes, we're aware that might have to be taken into account.0 -
You may find it more cost effective to get the builder who fits the kitchen to quote as he will have a plumber on site anyway. The work maybe easier with the kitchen ripped out.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

running a cold water pipe on top of a wall :rotfl:
it will freeze without lagging & trace heating & even then i wouldn't do it,
the company doesn't want the job which is why the quote is stupidly high & also if that's your spec the reason no one else wants to price itI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Sounds crazy - the price that is. Probably because they don't want to do it.
Can you put the washing machine elsewhere - in the bathroom maybe?0
