Hello
I am in the early house buyng stages, having had an offer accepted and put the mortgage application in with hsbc last Monday. I have so instructed my solicitors to begin work but now have 3 email addresses and am unsure who I should be contacting to chase things up.
I have the original contact (who is more of a marketing guy that finds clients for the firm)
Email addres of the solicitors legal assistant (who annoyingly is on holiday until Monday)
The solicitors email address.
How does it work usually with being charged? Am I charged for their time every time i chase things up?
If anyone had any thoughts on this that would be great.

Before instructing the solicitors you shoud have received a quote clearly specifying how they charge. If a fixed quote, make sure you check carefully what it includes/excludes (eg acting for the lender, dealing with a lease) or you might find yourself chrged for these as 'extras'.
If the quote is based on an hourly rate, find a different solicitor.
If you don't know, contact the marketing chap and get it explained AND put in writing.
Once you have accepted a fixed quote and instructed them, contact the solicior dealing with your purchase with any information/queries.0 -
Phone them up and ask. In our case I used the email address of the solicitor who was dealing with our case.
The cost should be fixed - clarify this! Many will offer no purchase, no fee.
Normally you would pay £200 - 300 upfront to cover searches. The balance will be taken at completion.
Monday is not a long time away ... your purchase will take longer than this!0 -
I'd email the solicitor - he's the one you're paying![STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]
