Bad treatment in the army

Yep - in the early 80s the choice of signing was 3, 6 or 9 years.... not 22.
Life, culture and risk in the 80s was far different from today - so, you need to view what happened in the context of the day... not apply today's more touchy feely approach to forces life.
What are you hoping to achieve? If you feel you need help to get over the 'trauma' then approach one of the forces charities.
But, other than that, realistically there is no recourse for you given the likely absence of witnesses, evidence etc.:hello:0 -
As some others have said, helping you 'move on' with the rest of your life, with the family you talk about in your first post, sounds like the right thing to do as there's not any financial compensation that's going to be payable.
The MOD has a Veterans Helpline (0808 1914 2 18), who can advise on what help is available, or you can go direct to Combat Stress, or access help through your GP, make sure they know it's about service in the Armed Forces as there may be specialist help available or you may get to jump ahead in a queue as part of the Armed Forces Covenant.
Good luck with all the good stuff that life holds for you.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
Firstly, people didn't get signed on for 22yrs straight away. A pensionable engagement was offered to those who had risen through the ranks to a level that showed that they were worthy of such a contract.
Secondly, whilst bullying in the forces was in existence, keeping quiet for so long, even whilst the publicity surrounding Deepcut Barracks was at the forefront of public news, makes you sound like you are a chancer who wants to try and get some compo.
Sorry to be so blunt, but I'm calling it how I, and many others, would see your story.0 -
I don't think an Internet forum is going to be the right place to get support for this. I wish you well in finding some way to deal with the past and how it's affected you.
Anger shouldn't be suppressed, it needs to be confronted.0 -
I reckon it's time to put this behind you on focus on your future. Good luck to you.If you change nothing, nothing will change!!0

Unfortunately, this kind of treatment for people with dyslexia still happens now to a degree. But there is not a lot you can do about it in your case as you have left the service.0
