If you are worried about your dog's nose then take her to the vet. I wouldn't think Vaseline is appropriate.

My friends dog started with a crusty nose a few months ago. After tests he has been found to have discoid lupus. Her dog is 10 BTY. If it was my dog I would be at the Vets to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. xxx

On the basis that an owner should know their own dog . . . . .

Has the nose always been dry?

Is the dog 'not quite' itself just recently?

What brought the dry nose to your attention?

Why do you worry that a dry nose might be a problem?

I would agree with others here, that it is best for your dog to have your Vet take a look at the nose. Just googling the symptoms quickly has brought up a range of possible causes including dehydration, infection, lupus, hormonal disorders, underlying conditions, a natural part of the ageing process, and more.

Vaseline probably isn't a good idea to put on the nose, it can cause diaorrhea if the dog takes to licking it off.

Hope your dog will recover soon.

My eldest dog (about 11 now) has had a dry crusty looking nose since we got him from a rescue 5 years ago. He's been to the vets for health checks and vaccinations and none of the vets have ever raised any concerns about it. I just assume it's either something that happens with age or some dogs have drier noses.

My nearly 14 year old has just had a check up at the vet today. This was one of the things we discussed. Her nose has been dry and crusty at the edges for about 8 weeks. Vet explained this as the mucus membranes not working as well, E45 cream was recommended.

A bit of coconut oil rubbed into the nose should help, it will moisturise and soften the skin and is perfectly safe if the dog licks it off.
