posting a late default too CR agencies

Can a credit cardl card company register a default with experian or equinox 5 years after the default when also the debt has been partially settled?

Yes.
Providing the default date they enter is accurate/fair.

Thanks. Do you know barclays criteria for issuing a default is it 3 or 6 months late payments or no rule?

No set rule.
It will depend on the particular case, whether the debtor made no payments or reduced repayments etc, whether the debtor kept in contact with them/informed them of the problem/perhaps whether the bank agreed to accept reduced payments for a period of time etc.

i kept in touch and paid a reduced £5 per month then settled that card a year later. Now 5 yrs later they want to put a default date that is 9 months after i had payment problems. I they would put it in earlier my credit file would be cleaner earlier? any ideas what i can do?

You could try asking them to backdate it by a few months. No harm in asking.

But if they decline then I suspect that a complaint to the ICO would not get you very far in this instance. The problem is there are no set rules, there were only guidelines in place for the filing of defaults and these guidelines were loosely written and open to different interpretations.
