Hi all.
A transport company i did some driving work for have short payed me on my last invoice. They have said its because they gave me some uniform and it wasn't returned when i left. I had no contract either written or verbal regarding uniform which was company logo'd. On my last shift i spoke to both the owner and general manager neither said anything about the uniform. I put the uniform in a charity bin as i thought it wasn't needed. £119.07 has been held back but no invoice for uniform provided by them. Any advice as where to go from now would be greatly appreciated i have emailed them a few time but received no response. Many thanks.

I can see fault both ways here, although it is generally assumed that you return all uniform (companies want to save money and reuse it), it's a bit useless that they didn't chase you up other than to deduct money from your payslip. I would also be surprised if the uniform DID cost over £100, but I do think that it's fair that SOME (not that much though) be deducted from your pay.
I'd maybe suggest talking to CAB, and maybe taking them to a small claims court.0 -
If they gave you a uniform, why on earth would you throw it in a charity bin? It'd be just as difficult/just as easy to give it back to them. Which would negate the entire issue.0

With all due respect the Op made a mistake. He might of thought it was his uniform to do what he thought with it, but did he check with anybody in the company before putting it in the charity bin to make sure? By the way the charity would probably not sell it anyway in case it still belonged to the company.0
