I have a few different pairs for different jobs. I use cheap disposable ones for potting on and planting, as you can feel everything you're doing, so no squished stems. I then have the rubberised palm ones with a cotton back (laura Ashley sale ones) thicker material with a suede Palm (these are RHS bought at massively reduced price from national trust), I have leather with a material back too and full leather.
I was listening to an RHS podcast recently about gloves and they tend to use leather ones most. But only use them for 6 months before replacing. But they're used all day every day. But it did make me think-I've had my leather gloves about 4 years lol

I have some thick suede ones I got from a garden centre years ago. I use them for strimming and cutting the grass, but don't bother with any gloves for lighter work.
  • I use the classic version of the Bionic leather gloves on this page http://www.bionic-glove.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_9 after seeing a recommendation in a gardening magazine. They have lasted two years so far and show no signs of deterioration; they've softened as leather does so they're even more comfortable than before, but the seams are all intact. They're also thick enough that I don't get prickled unless it's something very thorny, but I can still grip small weeds easily.

They're not cheap (£24.99 on their own site, or £19.99 on Amazon), but I would definitely recommend them and will be buying another pair when these ones need to be replaced!

I have always used the ones that are latex covered on one side and a dense woven fabric for the rest i think they are dipped in latex, never had a problem with them they last a good while and can go in the washing machine - not too expensive either
