Pre Paid Credit cards - A couple of questions

Hi to all, first post and hoping someone could offer some advice about pre paid cards,

Firstly, i receive disability living allowance from the government, am i able to have my twice monthly benefits paid into my card account? if so which cards allow this

Secondly, am i able to pay standing orders, i have a broadband account and was wondering if i am able to pay my monthly subscription from my card account?

I look forward to hearing from any one with any advice,

Cheers

Why not have your allowance paid into your current account which has a Debit Card and use that card for purchases. Which pre-paid card are you considering, because most I've seen have lots of fees, whereas a Debit Cards are free to use (unless you withdraw cash from a charging ATM). For example, Tuxedocard charges 1.5% on all ATM withdraws.

Here's a pre-paid card mention on this forums elsewhere: http://tuxedocard.com/

I strongly recommend you set-up a current account with a Debit Card, as this will save you money.

From what I have read on pre paid cards you cannot pay standing orders or dd s on them they are purely used for shopping and withdrawing cash from with the later asking for appropiate id such as passport and proof of address etc.

  • And also if you open a current account (even a basic account) you are better protected when paying by direct debit (DD). If you given a continuous payment authority (CPA) on a credit or debit card, then if there are any errors you are not covered by the DD guarantee scheme. With DD payments, if there are any errors then you can immediately obtain a refund from your bank, whereas with a CPA you do not get this protection.
