Hi all. I've been searching through past threads as we will be ready soon for our new kitchen. We are starting from scratch as we have just built an extension. We have a Trade Depot near us and the kitchens look quite nice. I know thay are part of The Kingfisher group, as are B&Q. Anyone got any thoughts about their kitchens and are they going to be the same as some of th B&Q range. Also do they ever have sales on the kitchens. Thanks!

Hi. I too am in the process of getting a trade depot kitchen. (southampton branch) the black gloss one. I cant say anything about the quality as I dont have the kitchen yet but the pricing in the trade depot is rubbish! The price sheets that they have on each individual display are not accurate, or complete. They dont include the whole range of parts for that style and the prices are not always correct or are misleading ie not the price for the whole unit or includes parts you dont want. eg a colume single oven housing is listed at £530.70 but this price includes 2 end panels at £154.62 each which are also listed separatly. The 900 bridging cabinet is £85.63 but the door comes separate at £36.98 They have a 600 bridging cabinet at £51.41 but no mention of a door to fit! So it is very difficult to price a project yourself. You have to get their computer to design and calculate it for you and even then their printout is not very clear. They will also automatically price you for rigid units as most trade users buy them prebuilt to save them installation time. If you are fitting the kitchen yourself or have the time to construct the unit before your fitter arrives you can buy flatpack and save some money. Its not difficult to construct them yourself.
Finally, ask about the 'trade card' it allows discounts of 10% on a monthly spend of £500t o £2000 then 20% above that. Its for trade but quite easy to apply for one. I work at a school and got one!
As for sales. My understanding is that they dont have them except on discontinued lines and then very rearly on a kitchen.
Price wise, the units are comparable but I would, and have, use eBay for taps, sink and worktops, door closuers etc. Cheaper and a better range.0 -
Hiya. Just had another look in store today. Actually I do like the gloss black but hubby wants 'less fashiionable'. It does look the business. We would be assembling ourselves or that should be my dad will be! Thanks for the pricing tips. As whole I do find the store well priced on lots of things but like you we shop around as best we can. I'll be getting my wine fridge off ebay, just to store the empty bottles and look nice of course!:D
Let us know how you go on and what you think.0 -
The walnut shaker is the style I originally went for before my depot had the black on display. They have the walnut with a white minerelle top. Does look great but went I saw the black, well.... What I have noticed about the black units is now that the trade depot have had in installed about 6 months, where the handles are recessed into the door there are a lot of scratch marks from peoples finger nails on the scooped part of the door. Being gloss, they really show up. I dont know how your local depot has the walnut displayed but it also looks good with the aluminium/glass doors on the bridging units.0
