Getting rid of old shed

I was just saying the very same thing yesterday. The amount of fuel on those bonfires would keep a good number of houses warm over the summer.
Neither the pallet wood nor tyre mountains are very good for the environment though. There should be a tree planting scheme initiated in the communities to offset all the wood burned.
The pallets are fine, but there's nothing like enough bare land here to grow the timber consumed. Interestingly, and proving yet again that the law is an !!! ( I like writing that), farmers are no longer allowed to burn hedging off cuts. However, they can hire a petrol powered machine to chop it up and pour fumes into the air.
I've often wondered why some of the state owned ground isn't turned over to Sitka spruce or ash. Roundabouts on the motorways leave a couple of unused acres.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

Whilst you are entitled to your opinion, the apparent 'urban definition' of the 'descriptive' word you have used, seems a somewhat unjust/harsh one in respect of most, and in particular long term, members of a uniformed youth organisation such as Scouting.
My opinion differs. Many, if not all, young people in such organisations are the opposite of 'obnoxious/worthless' and learn a great deal of self respect, as well as respect for and tolerance of others. Some young people are members from age 4 right through to late teens and beyond. Those working towards the various Chief Scout awards in their mid to late teens, show enormous levels of commitment and strong personal qualities in the various skills they develop as part of the awards, and empathy with others via the various volunteering activities they undertake in their local communities. They are often polite, level headed, considerate and helpful young people.butterfly )i(0 -

Bonfires are a traditional Scout activity & so need a steady source of inflammables that work safely with young people & marshmallows.
'Safely' is a key word. If a shed has been treated with paint or preservatives, it is unlikely to be safe to burn and cook food over. That said, the wood might still be useful for projects such as go-kart making, bird box building etc., so certainly worth asking local youth groups/schools if they could make use of it. By way of example, we have 3 bird boxes in our garden, all made in a local school from old wooden doors.butterfly )i(0 -

Joined to the mainland, possibly. Would certainly be a 'money saving' idea, as would save the exorbitant costs to take car across on the ferry.butterfly )i(0 -

You're still right. Whatever happened to that madcap idea of a bridge from Dublin to Holyhead from a few years ago? Must have died with the Celtic tiger.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

Dublin to Holyhead, that would be more bureaucratic as it would be a bridge between two different countries. Belfast to Portpatrick in Scotland would be shorter and wouldn't require a passport.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sorry, was watching Nolan last night !!!! :rotfl:0 -
