New PIP claim

My OH has been in receipt of ESA for a number of years and I have been advised that he should apply for PIP.
My query is with regard to the mobility component. He has no issues with walking so would definitely not be eligible for Enhanced Mobility.
However, he cannot plan or undertake any journey alone because he gets confused easily and has balance problems - any form of public transport would be completely out of the question. He can, however, drive quite safely and I am always with him in the car. Would this preclude him from Standard Mobility?

op I'm sorry but if he gets confused as you say "easily"how does he manage to drive, sounds to me like he should surrender his licence0

If he has no problem walking I cant see him getting any sort of mobility payment to be honest.
Don't bank on getting anything at all, even the lowest amount.
The criteria is very tough these days, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have balance problems and have trouble walking sometimes. I never received anything for mobility.
Have read somewhere, if you can walk to the front door you aren't getting mobility.
At my PIP assessment he said, can you plan a journey to that spot over there and pointed to a shop across the road.. I said yes.. that was 100m. If it was miles maybe no, so they trick you so just watch

they are not trying to trick you, they are ensuring that you are indeed entitled to take an amount of money from the public purse.....
If you are not entitled to it, you wont get it, simple as that.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

In general, for PIP, or for DLA, the tests are not for what in actuality you get.
If, for example, you have someone to do something for you 24*7, that is not relevant to a claim.
What is important is what you can do without that help.0 -

I walked to the front door for my home assessment (I say walk, more of a slow crawl with my crutches but there you go) and I got enhanced mobility.
If I got asked if I could walk 100m, the answer would most def be no, even on a very very good day which is pretty much almost never (maybe one day in the last year or so). There would be no question of repeatedly etc, I wouldn't be able to do it once let alone several times! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I have no problem walking but I get standard mobility because of the stress any journey alone would bring on (I have Aspergers)0

Out of interest, do you drive?
I only ask because a work colleague said my OH should claim for PIP if he is unable to go anywhere alone or if he had to use public transport. Her partner was awarded standard mobility and he has his own car and drives alone, but could not cope with going anywhere on public transport.
I have to always accompany him to any appointments though because he cannot speak or remember to ask the right things, which means me taking time off work.
BTW that is what I was referring to using the word "confused" in the context of doing things that are out of the ordinary - he is a perfectly safe driver.
From the comments on here, probably not worth bothering then.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
I don't drive, and public transport is a real trial to me.
