eBay iPhone dispute

It's all being done through messages at the moment. The buyer doesn't want to return the handset for a full refund so we're at a bit of an impasse at the moment.0

Do not offer a partial refund.
Just keep repeating that a FULL refund will be made on return of the item.
If you cave in, you are rewarding a dodgy buyer, and are then part of the Ebay problem as he'll go on and do it again. The principle is more important than the tenner.
I do not think the buyer will return the phone as you know and he knows there isn't a problem with it.0 -
I'm going to stick to my guns on this one. I don't intend to sell anything else on eBay ever again so if I end up with some negative feedback I don't give a monkey's.0

There is also nothing stopping the buyer coming back for another refund in a few weeks time. Assuming this is currently all being done through messages and there is no case/dispute open the OP could issue a partial refund now and in a few weeks time the buyer could then open a case if their demands aren't met.
As I said, I can't see if this is currently being dealt with under a dispute.
You can only have one stab at a case, it's either Paypal or EBay.0 -
Send them an old book in the post but dont put any stamps on it, so it'll soon eat into his £10 refund at the sorting office.0

That is a good idea. Some of my old engineering books from university weigh a ton too.0 -
I thought I'd give an update. The buyer seems to have accepted that his choices are keep the handset or return it for a refund. I let him know that I had checked the IMEI and that the handset should be unlocked. He seems to have accepted this and has opted to keep the phone. I even got some positive feedback. Hopefully this is the end of the matter.0

Great, had a feeling that would happen.
Do not return any feedback and make sure you 'Report Buyer' and let Ebay know that the buyer tried to extract a partial refund.
Buyers like this have a track record of doing this - I have no idea if Ebay do anything with these reports, but it can't hurt.
Also check your star ratings, as you may have been stabbed in the back behind your positive...0 -
Hmmm so a locked phone has miraculously unlocked itself when they've found out its either a full refund or nothing, gotta love eBay.
I would just let sleeping dogs lie at this point and not go down the route of reporting.
The buyer still has the ability to cause trouble for the seller especially if they're reported and something actually does happen to them and they have a reasonable idea who it was. The buyer could damage the phone out of spite and be able to return it.0 -
Well that seems all sorted now.
We bought a 2nd hand iphone recently and we had to get the seller to take it off his itunes before we could use it. Once he did that it unlocked. He had factory reset it but it still associated with his account. I found a link sent him it and it was easy to do.0
