Taking occasional card payments on stall

Hi I have just started a small craft business making and selling from home using Facebook, folksy, eBay and will also be doing a handful of outdoor events. Please could anyone advise on the best option of taking card payments. I do not wish to have monthly fees as I am a carer for my daughter and do not know how many events I will be able to do as depends on her health. I have found something called 'square' that looks like I can take payments over my iPhone and could be the solution??? Many thanks in anticipation

A lot of people here use either WorldPay Zinc or iZettle. Go back through tre past month or two of posts and you'll see each discussed. There is a referrers thread for WorldPay Zinc in the Referrals section of this forum, although the value of the discount varies over time - you can always ask for a code there.0

I'm thinking about starting up at craft fairs too, OP.
Have you thought about using Paypal? A lot of people will carry a smart device with them nowadays, you could have them transfer the money to your Paypal on the spot. I know it's not a card payment per se, but it could be a solution.
Btw. Do you have Etsy?
Good luck :-)0 -
Paypal also offer a Chip + Pin device, although you have to have a business account rather than personal0

I run a property maintenance company and like you, take sporadic payments via cards. I use Worldpay Zinc. It works via a small card reader linked via bluetooth to an ipad or smartfone.
They charge 2.75% of the transaction but no monthly fees. The money is in your account within 3 or 4 days and you pay tjis months fees on 18th day of next month. Very easy to use and decent UK based customer service centre.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Thank you all for replies. I've signed up with izettle but haven't used it yet. Will also give customers the option of PayPal via their own phone0
