midasman...I have just finished reading that book. I have not read a book for years and I was hooked on this straight away, it has changed my perception of money and gambling completely .

The thought of gambling suddenly disgusts me, I wish I had found this sooner too. I feel totally confident I will never gamble again and it made me feel better about myself almost instantly!

I was quite skeptical about reading some self help book I purchased online, but this book is unbelievable!

    Glad to hear Trimm Trabb,
I was the same couldnt believe I could read something so simple but make so much sense and really hit home.

For once I NO I will not gamble again and although I have said it many times before (my heart always new i would bet again:() this time is different. I have read it twice and second time was just as strong and will read it once a month to make sure I keep it in my mind for the rest of this year. Not that I need to but want to.

In 3 weeks I have gone from hand to mouth too a little bit in bank and feel great, confident and HAPPY!!
Onward and upwards congratulations and re read if you are tempted.
    Cheers midasman

Just a quick post to wish you well.
Have you read the thread by Amiga? Diary of a broken gambler?
Well worth a read, the guy is an inspiration. You may get some tips but more importantly a boost by seeing that it can be done.
He went bankrupt but the gambling addiction is no different.

Hey buddy, im in a similar position to you! I racked up around 12k in gambling debts. Currently 6 months gamble free and been on a DMP with stepchange for the same amount of time. Good luck! I found the biggest slump around the 3 month mark when the buzz of wanting to sort things out wears off and you get abit down about it all and how much money it is. So come on here often and let us know how your getting on, i can honestly say i will never gamble again! I attended counselling for 5 months which really helped so this might be something you can look into.

    Congratulations on admitting your problem!

I to have been through the mire you have been through.

I do not have any advice really, that hasn't already been said.

But, I would like to wish you the best of luck, and send my support

I will get through this. I had been to see a counsellor in my area before which was free, but in all honesty I didn't find it much help.

Will obviously work for some. but I found it quite negative . The Allen Carr book a has actually changed the way I view gambling and money, whereas the the counselling was just about avoiding something you will always want to do.

My last bet was nearly a month ago, I think and I honestly have no urge whatsoever to gamble again.

If i ever get an urge again though, I will pick up the book straight away.

looking forward to clearing this horrible debt!

As themidasman said, read Allen Carr’s ‘The Easy way to stop Gambling’. It’s got some very actionable advice.

Gambling isn't a problem, but an addiction. Believe it or not, there are specialized and structured addiction programs at rehab facilities to treat people with gambling addiction. We even have one listed on the official site of Canada Drug Rehab. It is much like counselling. You just get to meetup with other gambling addicts, have GA meetings, and get counseling for depression and stuff.

About clearing that debt, just go slow and steady, and you’ll be free in no time.

The debt is getting me down a bit at the moment, I have managed to knock £1000 off it since I first posted on here though.

I also have avoided gambling completely since and have no incline to ever do it again, which is a positive.
