Holiday Insurance - Cancellation Cover

I've just booked a holiday for moi plus other half.


Daft question, really: he's named on the booking, but I've paid the bill in full.
Obviously he'll be taking out holiday insurance for the usual medical, repatriation etc, but does he need to have cancellation cover? In other words, should we have to cancel, I have cancellation cover and the holiday is in my name, so I would claim and presumably everything would be refunded to me.

You'd normally just get a joint policy and it'd cover the two of you.

A personal policy would only cover your costs and not the costs of others travelling with you even if you'd paid for everyone.

Many thanks; sorry to be dim, but my costs are the full cost of the holiday (my other half doesn't even know about it, as it's a birthday surprise). When I tried to get a joint policy in the past I was told it was not possible due to a large age discrepancy.
