PGCE help - is BA compatable?

OP-its not a problem. A PGCE only qualifies you as a teacher-the PGCE (like someone said) goes through how to teach and NOT how to teach your subject-its a generic course. .
Sorry to be a pain, but I really think this depends on your PGCE/insititute. I did an ICT PGCE for Secondary and it so taught me loads about the subject (but yes it does make you qualified in the eyes of the law to teach any subject at that level, or another level strictly speaking, but that's a whole other discussion lol) . I now teach ICT and Business Studies and really struggle with the business studies when I join a new school with a different exam board, as the basics I was given on my PGCE for ICT were so different than Business Studies imho. For all the different subject PGCE's at my uni there was the two sides to it - the generic 'how to teach in general' part and the subject specific part, which from talking to my peers on the courses was the useful part whilst the how to teach generally part was just red tape and boring legislation on various things such as child safety and not being a paedophile (ok, slightly more than that, but very dull and not day to day being a teacher helpful was the general consensus).
I don't have any formal ICT qualifications, neither did a couple of other people on my course, I just had to prove I knew enough about ICT to be able to teach it. I used evidence of using ICT throughout my degree (in business studies), and jobs I had had since (data entry, web design and maintenance, which I was rather creative with job titles for and did cv stretching) and they went for it. Generally they said that me wanting to be a teacher was more important than my qualifications, and they went through so much to improve our subject knowledge during the PGCE that it didn't seem to matter...soooo if your friend has a part RE degree she should be fine
Of course, it depends on the institution and their requirements, so as dmg says, contact the uni you are interested in attending and just ask
.
