Egg Credit card claim - a few questions before I start claim...

Hi
I'd like to claim for missold PPI on an egg credit card, which accounted for approximately £65 per month for about five years - from 2004(ish)-2010! Having read a few of the threads here, I can see it's a long slog with Canada Square Ops, so just wanted to check a few things off with others to ensure I've got my house in order before I start the journey:
When I originally applied for the card I was just out of Uni, in my first job and needed a credit card fast. I certainly don't actively remember selecting a box to say I wanted to make such payments, but nor do I remember being prompted to untick anything (or at least explicitly).
Thanks to a couple of factors I was able to pay all the debt off on the card in 2010, meaning I closed it without acting on that missold claim. It sparked my memory when I found the letter when moving house, but now I (again) can't find it. I know, I know...
What else do I need, and need to consider before continuing?
Many thanks
Will

Having read a few of the threads here, I can see it's a long slog with Canada Square Ops, so just wanted to check a few things off with others to ensure I've got my house in order before I start the journey:
- I did have PPI charges on my account, and I have proof
- I applied for the account online, so didn't speak to any sales assistant
- I never really understood what PPI repayments were on the account
- I was actually contacted by Egg in 2009 saying they believed I'd been mis-sold it - this is a letter I have *somewhere* at home and I'm desperately trying to dig it out
- I never claimed on receiving that originally.

You may be out of luck for two reasons.
One, you bought the card online, which means no one sold you the PPI. You chose it, and I don't think they had auto tick boxes for it then.
Two, they have already written to you in 2009 and can now legitiately time bar you from complaining.
However, you can still complain, use the forms available here, and send them. If you can show you had no need of it, you may and I stress, may...be successful.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I doubt very much that they said you had actually been missold it. Otherwise they'd have just offered you the redress and had done with it. They are more likely to have said that they have identified some flaws in their sales process and offered you the opportunity to make a complaint if you believe you had been affected.
The issues are as Taff has identified, firstly that they can timebar any complaint now as it is over 3 years since you should have known that you had grounds for complaint. Secondly that online sales are notoriously harder to win, since generally speaking nobody has sold the product to you, you have bought it. If there was a pre ticked box then that is generally likely to win at FOS, however, obviously you are unable to remember. Having closed the account in itself is not an issue, the above is likely to be your main problem.0
