"Well I didn't know any of this" 2 articles that caught me out this morning.

Wales Announces Renewable Electricity Target Of 70% By 2030 & Commits £4 Million To Marine & Tidal Energy
Wales has trebled its renewable energy generation since 2010, and in 2016 it generated 32% of its electricity from renewable energy sources.

That's impressive, last time I checked Wales was a bit behind the UK, so coming up fast. And now with ASB's new windfarm ;), the numbers will be even better.

Evaporation Power Could Supply 325 Gigawatts (70%) Of US Electricity Demand
The researchers further conclude that evaporation can be generated only when necessary, compared to traditional renewable energy sources which are variable and reliant upon outside sources such as wind and sunshine. The normal solution to variable energy generation is to combine it with battery storage, which while efficient, nevertheless requires the use of expensive and sometimes toxic materials in manufacturing.

“Evaporation comes with a natural battery,” said study lead author, Ahmet-Hamdi Cavusoglu, a graduate student at Columbia. “You can make it your main source of power and draw on solar and wind when they’re available.”

The study also found that evaporation technology can also save water, with the researchers estimating that half of the water naturally lost from lakes and reservoirs through evaporation could be saved during the process of harvesting evaporation for energy — which came to around 25 trillion gallons of water a year, or about a fifth of the water Americans consume in a year.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is seeking new powers to ban wood burning in the most polluted areas of the capital.
Mr Khan wants to introduce a network of "zero-emission zones" where the burning of wood or coal is completely prohibited.

He also wants tougher controls on the sale of wood-burning stoves.

Under the mayor's proposals only low-emission versions of wood-burning stoves would be allowed to remain on the market.

The low, central and high scenarios are actually 21.6%, 29.6% and 37.6%.
At the rate offshore wind costs are coming down these numbers could be pessimistic?

...... but ..... but ..... when PV and on-shore wind got cheap, the government stopped supporting them, and excluded them from the CfD auctions!

Perhaps some cunning disguises will be needed, such as "Hinkley Point windfarm", or "Sizewell pvfarm" on the applications? :D

Can I assume that they expected there to be a two day delay between the date of the article and it's release on the 'net?

Lol - rather than using microwaves that could fry anything that flies through it, would it not be better to "hang" a long wire between the two celestial objects:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Both options would still be cheaper than Hinkley. :p
