Not being one to call out hyperbole but I believe pumped storage has been a thing for quite a while.....ASavvyBuyer said:Construction begins on energy storage system relying on gravity

I suggest you read the article. It's not 'pumped storage'michaels said:

I think you miss the point. Pumped storage has been around for ages and it also uses Gravitational Potential Energy as the way of storing power. Just like the concrete lumps on pulleys people. A stamp on history maybe, but a smaller stamp than the strap line suggests.Exiled_Tyke said:

A few years ago there was talk of loading up heavy electrically hauled trains and driving them uphill when there was spare electricity and then running them downhill with regenerative breaking to generate electricity later. Not sure if anything came of it, presumably not as I haven't heard more of it.ABrass said:

Pretty sure it was in the US where they have a decent height differentialed110220 said:

Another article on Big Oil and FF's being sued for their deceptive denial of AGW, and the impacts it has had. I assume they will lose a case eventually and the dam will burst, but regardless, I assume (dangerous I know) that even failed legal attempts will encourage a shift to RE through public awareness ...... or at least one can hope.
Charleston Sues 24 Fossil Fuel Companies For Costs Of Surviving Climate Change
“As this lawsuit shows, these companies have known for more than 50 years that their products were going to cause the worst flooding the world has seen since Noah built the Ark,” Mayor John Tecklenburg said. “And instead of warning us, they covered up the truth and turned our flooding problems into their profits. That was wrong, and this lawsuit is all about holding them accountable for that multi-decade campaign of deception.”The lawsuit details examples from defendants’ decades-long campaign to deceive the public, press, and policy makers about the harm the defendants knew would occur from the use of their products. The complaint also details the resulting impacts that Charleston is currently enduring,

Far more than just RE, and great to see recommendations like this ...... but will it influence policies!
UK climate assembly: economic recovery from Covid must tackle global heating
The first UK climate assembly made up of ordinary members of the public is calling for the economic recovery from Covid-19 to help drive the move to net zero carbon emissions.Key recommendations in the report included:
Frequent flyer tax for individuals who fly furthest and most often.
Increased government investment in low carbon buses and trains.
An early shift to electric vehicles.
An urgent ban on selling heavily polluting vehicles such as SUVs.
Grants for people to buy low-carbon cars.
A reduction in the amount we use cars by 2–5% per decade.
Making wind and solar energy a key part of how the UK reaches net zero.
Greater reliance on local produce and local food production.
A change in diet – driven by education – to reduce meat and dairy consumption by between 20% and 40%.

Zion Lights, the former head of PR at Extinction Rebellion, has once again confirmed her support for carbon free energy from Nuclear Power.
"the people living in poverty in the Punjab. They want clean water, but they also want laptops. In short, they want what we here in the West have had for a long time — and it is rank hypocrisy for those of us who have benefited from the comfortable advances in technology in recent years to suggest they can’t have it.
For that, of course, you need energy. But while renewable energy can and should be part of the mix in supplying energy to the UK and the rest of the world, the reality is that there is only one reliable, low-carbon energy source that we can invest in now."
It is beyond dispute that the planets future energy needs can be based on increasing wind and solar, nuclear must be supported..._

I thought it was now generally accepted and understood that anything coming from The Mail is not to be trusted?DiggerUK said:Zion Lights, the former head of PR at Extinction Rebellion, has once again confirmed her support for carbon free energy from Nuclear Power."the people living in poverty in the Punjab.
