Maybe the scientists might be better turning off the heating or the aircon in their labs before they go glue themselves to the pavements.

Edit: ... and while we are on the subject of saving the world maybe Mart should go off line.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/4217055/Two-Google-searches-produce-same-CO2-as-boiling-a-kettle.html

Googling has 'a very definite environmental impact' according to research conducted by a physicist from Harvard University

A typical search through the online giant's website is thought to generate about 7g of carbon dioxide. Boiling a kettle produces about 15g.
The emissions are caused both by the electricity required to power a user's computer and send their request to servers around the world.

I work in a water company lab, what we do is turn the aircon temperature to 15C in the summer so we can wear nice cosy cardigans and then put it on 30C in the winter for Miami beach wear. Next we produce alarmism about made up stuff like "E. coli", "cryptosporidium" and "pesticides" being a threat to health in the water supply to justify our five figure salaries and create a whole lot of unnecessary work in treating drinking and waste water. We spend all this money jetting around the world with celebrities in their private jets telling penniless pensioners they are not allowed heating and impoverished Africans they shouldn't have electricity. All to promote a world socialist/communist government.

That Google study was from 2009. It's quite dated now.

Yup, that pretty much sums up what I thought.

Correct, but everything’s all right now and all the CO2 that got pumped out by Google prior to 2017 was having no impact on AGW presumably, just like all the gas we burn to keep our homes warm or the petrol and diesel some of us (me included) still put in our cars. As long as we say the right things and blame everyone else we can save the planet.

I reckon there will be some long waiting lists for an EV next fiscal year. Effectively the UK will absorb every EV it can get it's hands on.

But realistically i think i have read/heard that all the currently planned battery plants for the next 10 years can only make 5 million cars world wide *(or 15m?), so we need to build 10 Giga factorys a year

"Last year, Tesla hit a production rate that, if kept up for a year, would have made 20 gigawatt-hours of battery power—enough for 200,000 top-of-the-line, 100-kWh Tesla cars."

"reports surfaced that VW luxury arm Audi will build 10,000 fewer electric E-tron SUVs than expected, because of a battery shortage.

Now, Volkswagen is taking some of the battery building burden in-house. It will spend nearly €1 billion ($1.12 billion) to build a production plant near its German headquarters, working with an unnamed partner, it announced "

Lol yeah you are right Ken, Martyn is definitely baiting you, definitely mentioning you all the time etc etc.

As someone who is in and out of labs most days I can tell you the heating and aircon is used to maintain temperature for very sensitive equipment needed for experiments.

I assume you will now go off line as your post suggest?

Or is it just any pedantic dig will do....

Looking at his angry posts today, I suspect someone got out of GA's bed on the wrong side this morning. :rotfl:

Then it doesn't belong on this thread.

Article on replacing traditional meat with alternatives:

Insect treats create buzz as experts ponder future of food and farming
Another report that global consultancy AT Kearney released in June predicted that most of the meat people would eat in 2040 would not come from slaughtered animals. It estimated that 60% would be either grown in vats or replaced by plant-based products.

So far, the US and Europe have led research and development in the industry, which has mostly been focused on developing like-for-like replacements for processed meat products such as burger patties, bacon and sausages.

Permaculture systems include animals for land clearance, fertiliser, milk and meat. Also, birds for land clearance, fertiliser, eggs and meat. Fish can be farmed in the ponds required to conserve water and use it on crops. Such systems are capable of feeding up to 12 Billion people in a regenerative way.

I have eaten insect nutrition bars and the ones I had tasted fine.

I cannot see the point in trying to recreate the taste of meat with overpriced and degeneratively produced vegetable matter in "vegan vegetable burgers."
