Working Tax Credit Issues

Hi

I'm starting a new job on Monday, £14,750 a year before tax, and think I'm eligible for working tax credit but the HMRC website is really obscure, just using the benefits and tax credits forum on here has been much more enlightening!

I can't find the right form to download in order to apply, also does anyone have a helpline number that works please? Email contact also not working, they said I could visit my local office of HMRC but it's only open when I'm at work!

Any help greatly appreciated thanks

  • I was under the impression you had to be earning less than £14,000 but I don't work at the Tax Office so don't quote me. Can't you phone the local Tax Office and ask them over the phone, they can send you an application form to apply as well. better than dredging through the leaflets and not finding the answers you want.

    Hello,

The only way you can get an application pack is by phoning the helpline on 0845 300 3900. They will run through an eligibility calculator and then issue one out to you.

  • They didn't run through any eligibility calculator with me - they just sent the pack out in the post.

They are suppose to run through an eligibilty calculator first, this came into effect about 2 months ago. Reason for this was claimants were sending in applications but where not eligible and it was a waste of time and resources for both the claimant and TCO. Also, forgot to mention to OP, you will need to have your NI number to hand aswell.

    Hello sunshine124,

I would advise you give the helpline a quick call to check the status, usually it takes 2 weeks from the date you post the application for it to be logged onto the system. From that point onwards their is no time scale. If their are any problems with the application process TCO will write to you, but that can take sometime so your best bet is to call. Also, your claim will automatically backdate to the date your application was logged onto the system, and possibly upto a further 93 days subject to eligibilty (does always happen automatically and has to be requested in some cases).
