Alright here is the situation. So I went on this website and bought a brand new iPad Air 2 64GB Gold on the 28th of May. It arrived this morning on the 8th of June 2015, decent condition. Took it the Apple shop, and they also confirmed the serial number on the box and the actual device match, and it is a registered legitimate product.
Only problem is that it is a Japanese iPad. I asked if I could get AppleCare+ for the 2 years here at the Apple Store, and they said unfortunately they wouldn't be able to, as it was bought under the Asia Market, and hence is subject to those warranty regulations. Additionally, the AppleCare+ would only be able to be purchased there. I was told I could phone the AppleCare number on the website and see what they say if they'd provide any international warranty.
Now I have made the entire purchase on a credit card, so my funds are safe in that regards. One thing this company has not done is provide me with a valid VAT receipt. I was told that they operate in Hong Kong so they are not liable to pay VAT in the UK. I then requested some sort of tax receipt that would be applicable for Hong Kong taxes, so that I could at least show I have a tax receipt, that at least takes into consideration tax laws for where the product was apparently purchased, as they had marked the item as "gift" when sending it to me. This is probably incorrect, as due to International Laws it should have VAT payable, as should NOT be marked as gift. There are no custom or duty charges on an iPad, but there is VAT applicable.
Now my question is this:
I am thinking of just having a chargeback or a section 75 credit card claim for online fraud/counterfeit/fake products. That would get me my money back on the credit card. Then, if ValueBasket wishes, they can arrange for delivery arrangements, and I could send them back the item. Then, I guess I'm just going to proceed to buying the iPad from the Apple shop lol
What do you guys think? Do you think I have a case in terms of credit card to chargeback the amount? As a proper receipt(counts as a legal contract) has not been provided, I do not believe I even have ownership of this device. I am worried it may even be a stolen product, and ValueBasket has refused to provide me with a taxable purchased receipt.

I can't really see what grounds you have for a chargeback. ValueBasket's website is pretty clear that they operate from HK and I doubt they claim that it's a UK model for warranty purposes, so you can't claim that it was not as described.
The tax issue isn't relevant. As they were exporting the item they would have paid no local tax on it, and if VAT or import duties were due, it would be ~you~ that would have to pay them as the importer, not ValueBasket. They (obviously) can't provide a receipt that includes a tax that they are not liable to pay.
I don't believe it's a legal requirement to provide a receipt in the UK. However, I'm not sure what the situation is under HK law, which I understand their sales contracts are subject to.
I doubt you'll get anywhere by claiming that it might be stolen, unless you have some evidence to suggest that it actually is.0 -

Only if charging VAT but irrelevant as this is an overseas purchase.
looks like the OP has seen a deal, not read any of the small print and bought it, now has major worries that could have been headed off by reading the web page.
OP you will be laughed at at best if you try to make a chargeback.0 -
There's plenty of info out there about Valuebasket - I'm a bit surprised when you saw a good deal out there, you didn't do a spot of homework on it first?!
There's no grounds for a chargeback here. This one needs to be chalked up to an expensive experience.0 -
Didn't the £100 price difference compared to UK sellers ring alarm bells?
You bought a grey import at a knockdown price and got lucky with import tax - Just enjoy your ipad and savings - I dont think there is anything you can do.0 -
If something is incredibly cheap then it's for a reason, always investigate that reason.
Caveat emptor.

You are lucky you even received the item at all, buying from a dodgy site without doing any research first. There's no chance you will get a chargeback, you should have looked into it and it would have been clear the site operates out of the far east and doesn't comply with UK law.poppy100
