Experian - removal of notice of correction

Quick question, I had an on going dispute with British Gas from 2012 to 2013, which meant I did not pay for about 3-4 months as they would not deal with the issue. Eventually they did, however this was on my credit report. I fought it but, they refused to change it. Eventually I had a notice of correction was put on the credit account . As I now want to go for a new mortgage, now Experian have told me to remove it as it will make the process take longer as it was over a year ago, well it was paid all sorted in January 2014. I am now worried about this, as I have sent the email to do this, but it doesn't make sense to me, surely it should stay so that they can see I had an issue with British Gas?
Please help, I don't know what to do
Should I have the notice of correction taken off or not? Should I tell them to leave it on it? I am a really confused especially after seeing the article on here with regard in seeking notice of corrections.
Please help, I don't know what to do

The decision is yours if you wish to keep a 'Notice of Correction' to explain exceptional circumstances behind something on your credit report that is causing a negative effect.
Banks and financial institutions will only see your 'Notice of Correction' if they use the Experian Credit Report. You can also ask Equifax and Callcredit to add this notice to their credit reports for you.
As you've mentioned after speaking with my colleague this could delay an application, adding a 'Notice of Correction' to your credit report will slow down any future applications you make for credit because the lender has to read the notice, but they do not have to take it into account when making a decision.
If you feel that the 'Notice of Correction' that is currently on your credit report is likely to cause a delay on have an affect when trying to obtain credit, please let us know as we will be able to remove this for you.
