Moral Dilemma - what would you do???

I'd maybe clear it with your boss - not the club card bit so much as collecting money off the elderly. Although you are honest lots of folks aren't and you might find they have some procedures in place that forbid this.
Sounds like a win-win situation to me though so hopefully it can go ahead for you.Mortgage OP 2026 £640/2000Mortgage balance: £32,222

Maybe i could get one of the residents to open a credit/debit card account then they could order the shopping for some of the others. They might like the challenge

Anyone out there know if we could get a credit card in the name of a group such as a resident's association?? I wouldn't have thought they would do this as who would be responsible for any debts??
We have a bank account but it only has a cheque book and paying in book, as they have to have several signatures, don't have debit cards on these accounts.0 -
I think you can only have a credit card in sole name - you can add authorised users/additional cardholders, but it is still a sole account, and the person whose name it is in would be liable for the debt.
I think it's a great idea though, hope you manage to get it off the ground. I know if it was me, I would be delighted for you to have the Clubcard points if you sorted out my shopping."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
hi Snaggles
The more i think about it the more i am tempted not to do it. It is just so complex.
Its just a shame that the people who would really benefit the most from online shopping and deliveries are the ones who are the least likely to access it as they have no computers and don't believe in using plastic.
Wonder if Mr T would accept cash on delivery??    Not very likely!!!lol0 -

Shame - would have been different back in the good old days when cash was king! Might be worth a call to Tescos Sales office to see if they have a solution in place.
Other questions - will this be done in your time or works? If works they may not take well to your making a gain in time that they are paying you for. In which case it could be worth offering to buy something for them with the points that you would gain!0 -
I suspect your employers wont go for this as they may feel that the arrangement could turn around and slap them in the face - i.e, (not that you wouldnt!) you could run off with elderly peoples money which they as an employer may be liable for in someway.
However - there could be a way around this. Firstly, the people wanting to do this would need to set up some kind of community group for themselves, in order to qualify for a bank account (such as Natwest Community Banking account, the Co-Operative Directplus account, etc) and set up a Tesco account with these details. You could then do the shopping for them and use the clubcard vouchers for a xmas party for them all.
This way, you dont have to use your own cards/accounts and would go some way towards assuaging your own moral dilemma!

Hi,
I think you sound like a wonderful asset to your workplace!
I have worked in healthcare, now combined with social care for a very long time and can honestly say that staff members such as yourself, who are fully committed to the client group rather than their pay cheque are a rarity. (If only there were far more like you the care sector would have a far better reputation!)
When you approach your employers regarding this I would suggest that you ask for a manager to collect the invoice issued on delivey from the resident, and supervise the handover of cash to cover your outlay, if possible issueing a receipt for the transaction. Thereby always leaving your actions totally beyond reproach.
Make sure that whatever arrangement you finally reach regarding clubcard points is also in the form of a written agreement. I say this as although your clients may prove beyond reproach, the same cannot always be said about their extended families.
Good luck with it !!!
If you ever grow to dislike where you live please come and work in my PCT area !!!

if you can make sure you use a cash back visa ie...american express 3 % for the first 3 months 1 % after that...as long as you explain what you are doing then there should be no problem ...i have done this before and no-one has had a problem (not that i earned much) but you are going out of your way and taking risks ..i would say go for it0

I agree with others, try and sort it out with your management, or how about setting up your own business/charity doing it?
I know you can get them pre paid visa/maestro cards and you just top the money up and use it.
I think alot of my clients would love the option of tesco deliveries but as you say, due to lack of credit/debit cards and internet use they are unable.0 -
Our Tesco here won't deliver to a business and if its lots of orders going through then they may think it is ? I have to use Sainsburys/Asda here but Asda limit it to 80 items per dleivery so JS gets most of my businesses orders.
The points are a perk for all the hassle I get !!!Sealed pot challenge 822
