Moral Dilemma - what would you do???

Hi DFW's
i have a dilemma and just wondered what people thought about it......
I work in sheltered housing and some of the residents have approached me about organising online shopping deliveries for them. No problem so far. BUT as most have no credit/debit card and none have internet access I would have to do this for them using my internet and computer and my card.
I have a credit card with a nil balance that I could use and they could give me cash for their orders which I would just pay off in full each month so not accruing any interest, and I am happy to order online for them.
The dilemma I have is that being a good little dfw I would use a cash back credit card, order through pigsback for piggy points and then also collect tesco clubcard points for the order as i would be using my account. I'm not sure that I feel comfortable with gaining a reward this way but on the other hand it would be a waste not to claim the points etc.
I haven't give them an answer yet - what does everyone think??????
Thanks
PS One way round it would be to use the club card points to buy magazine subs for the court so everyone could enjoy the reward.

You're taking a risk using your card, so enjoy the bonus.:grouphug: Things can only get better.0

i think you only get piggy points for the very first order you do with tesco so if you're already signed up with them i don't think it counts (I might be wrong but i'm sure that was the advice given on the pigsback thread a while ago), i don't think its wrong to collect the tesco club card points you're not taking anything from the people you'd be ordering for, just make sure that you keep the money they give you seperately so that you clear the credit card each month

if you explained to the residents that you would be getting the points, I am sure they would be quite happy for you to do that.
I wouldn't have a problem with it - after all, you are not robbing them of anything or trying to short change them.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
They won't be losing out on it, so why not? It is your time and effort that's going into it, and in the event that something went wrong somehow you'd be the one who had to deal with it.
Why not just be completely honest with them and say you're happy to do it, and mention that you get Air Miles (simpler than explaining the concelt of Quidco to the elderly!) every time you use your card - they won't be the slightest bit interested I'll bet! And it would be daft not to claim the points - they're free after all, and the only winner if you don't is the card company.
Chances are that it will only be a small amount you gain from it anyway, but if buying them a magazie sub makes you feel better then go for that option.0 -
yeah i agree, you are doin them a favour and using your time to order for them, im sure they will be quite happy for you to reap the rewards! Plus I dont know about you but personally i find it time consuming and sometimes annoying doing my grocery shopping online so why not take what you can!!LBM 29/07/ 07

I'd definately tell them about getting the tesco points and they probably wouldn't be a bit bothered anyway.
At the moment the residents who are asking about this are spending around £12 a time in taxis to do their shopping so don't think they would bother about the points as they would be saving much more themselves.

To start it would be about £200 - £300 worth of shopping a week, so about £3 a week in points but others may join in if it takes off. £3 a week in points is £150 a year in vouchers or £600 in deals which is a significant amount - hence the dilemma.

Would you be doing this in the name of the company you work for or in your own name?
My dad works for a homeless charity and one of the staff was sacked for using his own clubcard when taking residents in sheltered accomodation shopping instead of the company clubcard. But this was part of his job, not an extra service he was providing out of hours....2009 winnings: private box at the ballet, a cooking lesson with Jean Christophe Novelli, a case of wine, £25 itunes downloads, a candle, Football Manager PC game, a lipstick, £2500 -
I think I would see what your employers view is on this - it could be taken the wrong way and arranging deliveries for your own gain, taking advantage of the elderly etc. If anything it should be done in works time, on works computer using works credit card.

Grocery challenge: £230 / £230 left0 -
We don't have a company clubcard or credit card of any type and i would have to do it in my own time as we don't have internet access at work. Also i would have to clear it with my line manager first anyway.
I could set up individual accounts for each resident with tesco online but as they have no cards they would still have no way to pay.
