Apple TV remote

Hi,I have lost my Apple TV remote so decided to get the remote app hoping to be able to control the Apple TV with it...then realised you need the remote to configure the app to the Apple TV?
Is there any way to do this without the remote control or do I have to buy a new one?:)

It shouldn't do unless you don't have Home Sharing set up?

Failing that do you have an Android device with infrared capability? If so use this.

I tried the first link,but I need to switch on home sharing on the Apple TV,and I assume you need the remote control to do that?

It looks like it which does seem a bit stupid.

Could you borrow one or do you have any programmable remotes?

I could borrow one from a friend,but does it need to be programmed to my box?

You should be able to pair the borrowed remote with your Apple TV. Instructions here (including what to do if you have lost your own remote);
