Hi,I'm new here so not sure I'm posting this on the right place.anyway....I need some advice...I took my car to the local national tyres for a check as I had the brakes warning lights come on the dashboard so thought is better to be safe than sorry.the guy at the garage put it on the platform and he said that the car is losing brake fluid at the rear tyre so he needed to take it apart so to find out what the cause was.he said the cylinders and the shoes will need replacing for both rear tyres.the total cost he said is going to be 335.is this price realistic or is it a ripp off?need to mention that the car is a chrysler neon from 2000.

My advice would be to ring another local kwickfit type place, and ask them for a quote on the work required. Then try to get national tyres to match it. Sounds like the garage is quoting to replace 2 x slave cylinders, brake shoes on both sides, and probably bleed and replace the brake fluid.
Good luck with trying to get it sorted at a fair price.
Only thing is the current garage have got you over a bit of a barrel as I take it the car is now immobile?0 -
Thank you for replying citykid5,yes I had to leave the car with them as the guy said that once he takes the wheels off he might not be able to put them back on depending how bad the problem was.also said the drums needs replacing but because their suppliers doesn't have them on stock he agreed to just clean the existing ones and reuse them, otherwise the price would have been a lot higher0
