replacement latch

I need to replace the latch on my internal door. It is standard so I took it to the shop to make sure I bought the right one. I was surprised to find out it it slight thicker than the old one and will not fit, it is a tubular one, I saw wilko is selling mortise latch. Pl can anybody tell me the difference between tubular and mortise latch. I thought since it is standard it should fit. Thanks

Its quite common to be slight measurement variants in this type of thing. The difference between a mortice and tubular latch is one is round and the other sometimes is square. Obviously some manufacturers use different names to sell stuff and get them labelled as the same.

If they dont fit its time to use chisels to adapt the cut out in the door.

Thanks, bought one at Wilko 63mm and it fits perfectly. The other I bought from B&Q is 64mm.
