mandatory dematerlialisation

I would be most grateful for any help. After my share certificate went missing in the post, I find myself in a difficult and highly expensive situation (having to get a letter of indemnity countersigned). I put it to the broker who arranges the countersignature that perhaps if I just forgo acces to the shares for ten years till mandatory dematerliasation (certificates becoming obsolete) then perhaps I wouldn't need a replacement share certificate as I could sell shares electronically.

He didn't seem to think it was a good idea, to be honest. Was he right?

After mandatory dematerialisation, won't you need a Tardis to access the shares?

What happens if as part of the dematerliasation you are required to produce the certificate any way to convert to the electronic system?

What if you should die first?

You did use special delivery which pays compensation, didnt you?

Possibly time to bite the bullet?

Are there any takeovers, mergers or splits on the horizon?

This - a corporate action is fairly likely between now and then. For 'evidence' purposes get a copy of your holding data from the share registrar perhaps, and stick it in a box file with all your other financial info in case you get hit by a bus before it happens?

No, I'm afraid not. So no chance of getting a new certificate that way!

Sorry pjread. I'm new to this and it looks like my answer above crossed with your question (or something). Thank you for your advice.
