  • Great advice regarding these toppers as I`ve been thinking of buying one too but didn`t know what would be the best thickness/support etc. Many thanks.

I`ve just found an offer in the News of the World for 100% Duck feather snuggle mattress topper. It is coming up at £39.99 on their website but in the paper it says that they are £29.99 (thats for a double).
Check it out here - www.hhspress.co.uk

    Single ....... £19.99 ..... saving £50.00
    Double ...... £29.99 ..... saving £70.00
    King size .... £29.99 .... saving £80.00

    p&p is £3.95

This looks a good deal but can anyone tell me if they are any good or if the memory foam mattresses are better than these one`s? I currently have an orthopedic mattress which is murder on my back so I`m looking for a good quality mattress. Can anyone help please?

Hi, I didn't want to start another thread. I was just wondering if anyone knows if you have to wait until the topper regains shape before putting it on the bed?

I was hoping to get mine on the bed today but there's still a couple of ridges in it. They're were we would be lying so I'm worried putting it on now might damage it :undecided

Thanks Tim, we are driving to our holiday destination and planned to leave the mattress there. Do you think the package will fit on the back seat?
    Carmen x

    Hi Carmen.

They do usually come rolled up and vacuum packed. The length of the roll would normally be the width of the mattress, so for a king size it should be around 5' long by around 12" diameter.

If it is a good quality topper then it should be high density, and will be quite heavy (so not very good to take abroad on holiday).

A memory foam topper should be no less than 2" and no more than 2.5" deep.

The recommended density is 60 to 70kg per m3, although the acceptable range is 55 to 80kg. The 55kg won't give you as good support, and the 80kg can make it difficult to change position.

Ridges??......was it folded rather than rolled?

You should still be able to use it within a few hours of opening it without causing any problems.

It was folded then rolled Tim. I managed to get one in Dunelm mill which was just over 2" thick. I was wanting a mattress but hubby's always warm at night and I was worried that he'd find it too hot and I'm not up for shopping for a mattress atm.

Thanks for all your help Tim, it's been really useful

Did it say what the density of the topper was?

As long as the memory foam is no more than 2.5" deep, and the mattress is the sprung/memory foam type then there is no problem with memory foam mattresses being too hot.

No it doesn't say what density it is Tim.

I was worried about buying a full mattress too because i suffer from Chemical sensitivity (can't be around people wearing perfume, use chemical cleaners in the house very often etc) and thought if I couldn't use the topper it'd be easier to write off £107 than £500+. There was a very faint chemical smell with the topper that seems to be gone now but I've had a thumping headache all day so not sure if it's triggering my sensitivity or it's something else. I'll give it a couple of weeks if I can to see if it eases.

I'm afraid the chemical smell is residue from the fire retardant chemicals, and this is a legal requirement.
