Hello all,
We have recently made an impulse purchase and bought an old chapel in a lovely area close to the sea. It is registered as D1 use Church, library, play centre, etc.
My question is whether we can place our caravan on the land (plenty of it) as we are working on the property we would need to rest, eat drink, toilet etc !!
Could we sleep in it ? Any advice welcomed and appreciated

What purpose have you bought the chapel for?0

If you fell asleep after a few hours work, I doubt anyone would say anything. You may get away with staying overnight on the odd occasion. I very much doubt you could make it your main residence.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Could be a grave mistake...."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

What did the council state when you asked them??0

Main purposes is to hopefully eventually change use and build upon it. For now to keep it maintained and offer lease as a church or any class falling under D1.
No graves by the way lol. I haven't asked council yet as I don't want them to be aware of us using a van if we aren't allowed too.
No it won't be main residence until we retire and use has been changed.
Ta for replies 0 -
Thought so. Which might make them very wary of giving any kind of precedent for using the land for even short-term residential.Main purposes is to hopefully eventually change use and build upon it.
If you were going to be using it for one of the currently permitted tasks, and the residential was purely ancillary to that to make the renovation more convenient, that might well be regarded more favourably.0 -
Buy one of THESE, dress in black, and take a sleeping tablet.
I doubt you'll be troubled, certainly not more than once.
But, to echo the above, I think the Council might come down on you very heavily if you do this before a change of use, and it might make them less willing to allow a later application....0 -
Are there any covenants on the land in the deeds?0
-
Hi, yes restrictions of 1) Sale of alcohol 2) Not permitted to become a place of gambling/ betting0

(My place is covered such that I can't run a bawdy house.... "at weekends")
