Understanding EIS Capital Gain relief

Is anyone able to help me understand how the Capital Gain relief works for EIS investments?
Thanks to poor tax planning, I had a capital gain of £32k for 2013/14 and £20k for 2014/15, and anticipate a further capital gain of £10k+ in 2015/16. Clearly I have already paid tax on the gain for 2013/14 and will do so for 2014/15.
I understand, so far, that I can use investments in EIS to defer capital gains up to 3 years after the gain has been realised. Is this still possible after I have paid the CGT? I also don't fully understand the relationship between income tax relief and CGT relief, in this context.
Any pointers gratefully received.

Ok, have done my own research and now feel I understand the income and CG tax reliefs available on EIS. So, any lurkers care to share any experiences with EIS direct investment providers and/or EIS-qualifying funds?0
