Hi, dont know whether this has been posted before, but I know that due to cutting down on cds sent out with laptops, dell no longer provide a copy of xp as they do with desktops.
They do however provide a copy of the OS on a hidden partition of the hard drive and will provide an xp disc if you nag them, alalthough a basic OS and no drivers which will need to be downloaded.
Something I only discovered a few days ago though and again apologies if its been mentioned before is that it is possible to burn a copy of your laptops OS and all drivers used (if you have a RW!) b y using a preinstalled Dell utility. This is a ONE time operation and after burning the file disappears.
I have done this sucessfully, and I believe (but will have to check!!!)that you click on start and then dell recovery file. This will launch a program to burn the disk. Ac power needs to be connected.
