My lawn is is in a pretty sorry state (was going to have it lifted and re-turfed but it may be savalgable) so I've bought some Verve lawn feed with added moss and weed killer.

My worry is that it will be poisonous for the birds which come to the feeder and forage in the grass. The only warning on the box is about using gloves and it will be hazardous for pets - I assume this is the same for birds,

Is there any product which is safe to use and keep the birds safe?

Thanks

Thanks for that. OH scarifier the lawn two weeks ago and it's very bare and sad looking. I've been digging up dandelions by hand but found that a couple have very very long tubes that look like pasta.

Best not to try to dig them up, any piece of root left in the ground will grow again.

There is no quick fix if your lawn is covered in weeds, particularly dandelions, it can take a few years of constant work to rid the lawn of weeds and have only grass left.

Weed & feed then scarify and then sow some grass seed straight away, this will hel fill the empty spaces.
Then you need to get a spot weedkiller that is made for lawns, that way you will not harm the new grass that is growing, use this for about 2 months on any weeds that appear and the new grass is established then after a couple of normal cuts you start the process again and finish with a final feed only in the autumn.

Start again a couple of weeks after the first cut next spring.

The weed and feed stuff arrived yesterday so I'm doing a patch test first to see how it goes. A friend came me a bottle of coir based patch repairer so that's on another part of the grass and then a gardener friend swore by iron sulphate so there's a third patch with that scattered on.

Blimey, it's like buying coffee, so many products.

Anyway, will wait and see what happens next.

    Thanks folks.

Tonight - the area with the Evergreen has black patches were the moss /weeds have been affected.

Ditto the part with the iron sulphate, it looks worse cos I scattered it over a larger area.

So, at this point it looks like a draw - so far!

I hope that you have watered it in if there has been no rain for a couple of days

Yes, did that. We've had the dryest five days since last Sept so I had to get the hose out. Most unusual for the part of the world!
