New Graphics Card - No Display.

Hello, hopefully one of you can help me with the following problem, or point me in the right direction in order to solve it.

I cannot get any type of signal/display from a new video card I have. ATI X1650XT Turbo ICeQ AGP. (Dual DVI outputs. No VGA Outputs.)

Currently I have a Dell PC with a ATI 9800 Pro AGP. This is working perfectly from both outputs (VGA and DVI(Using one of those DVI to VGA adapter.)) to my analogue(VGA) monitor.

The problem being my new graphics card ATI X1650XT IceQ AGP won't display any picture/produce a signal. Unlike the 9800pro it has TWO DVI outputs, rather than one VGA and one DVI.

Earlier today, I uninstalled the ATI drivers, took out the 9800pro, inserted correctly the x1650xt into the agp slot, attached the power etc. I've tried attaching the DVI adapter first before the VGA monitor cable and also the adapter to the card with the VGA cable attached.

It states on the back of the box, system requirements....

A 450watt power supply or greater, 30 amps, 12volt rail is recommended.
I'm not sure what the wattage of my psu, but I've attached power and the fan on the card is working. Also when I switch on the computer there are NO bios beeps to suggest the card isn't in the agp correctly.

Many Thanks
Claypole.

Just checked the manual of the pc (dimension 4600) and it looks like it's only a 250watt psu. Going to double check with the sticker on the psu.

If this is the case, of the wattage being too low, what 450+ watt psu would be a recommended replacement? How easy are they to change over?

    Many Thanks

dell have a habit of using low power PSU's...

    Power supplies on ebuyer

Pretty easy to fit, just swap cables like for like - if you have not done it before then make a note as you take the old supply off and reverse the steps to put the new one in...

I am assuming it's standard ATX...

Yeah it's my PSU......in the manual says 250W. Sticker on PSU says 170W.

Cheers, I'll check out Ebuyer. Will any 500W psu fit my dimension 4600?

No never changed a PSU before.

You will need to check that the case takes a standard ATX power supply - it should be on the current power supply - on the sticker.

It should be, but Dell use some strange things and I am not familiar with the dimension 4600

EDIT: Just had a look on-line and the dimension looks like it takes a standard ATX power supply to me - you should be ok... Follow the instructions from the link above...

    Cheers Wilco.

So I just need a standard ATX 500w psu. On ebuyer, there's lots of versions like ATX2.01, V2.2 etc? Ignore them and just go for ATX?

    Will this be sufficent?

or this one with 6x molex?

Power supplies really differ in price, quality, noise etc so you will need to decide what you want and how much you want to spend - just make sure it has enough connectors for all your componants...

I would go for a branded PSU ..You will pay a bit more, but the chance of damaging something else if the PSU can't hold the power and keep it stable will cost more in the long run.At a minimum I would go for antec ..Just make sure all the connectors fit if your machine is not so new .

To be honest, I can't afford a lot for a psu.

So best to go for a branded like antec rather than the extra value ones.

Do you think this will solve the DVI display problem or is the new card (x1650xt) dead? (even though the fan still works)

    Cheers.

The branded PSU's are certainly more reliable and will be quieter (you do get what you pay for with a PSU) but if you are on a budget, and are not even sure if it is the cause of the issue I would go with a cheap one and see...

I have been using a generic 500w PSU (from microdirect) in my system for over 2 years now and never had a problem...
