Surely she's going to have access to power though, what about her phone?

Doesn't the Powershot A480 have it's own lithium cells? Just buy a few of those......

She will be treking for most of the fortnight without access to any power points, Not taking her phone.

Yes, you may be right but unfortunately many shops seem to think it applies to all lithium cells

So... it doesn't apply to all lithium cells? Which types are prohibited by the Royal Mail? (Out of interest...)

Just a thought... But the cheap ~£15 non-smart phones they sell these days are light, cheap, and the batteries last a month without being recharged. Might be worth considering for emergency use.

The Energizer Lithium batteries worked well for me.

The capacity of a cell/battery is measured in mAh (milli-amp-hours), so if you're using trustworthy brands (where the capacity isn't likely to be fraudulently overstated, as is the case for Chinese imports), then you can compare the mAh to see which batteries will last for longest.

A thought: Would there be any restriction on taking a quantity of batteries on a flight ?

She most-likely won't be allowed to carry spare Lithium batteries in her hold luggage. Here is an example table showing BA's restrictions:

As mentioned above, the Energizer Lithium AA's are good for digital cameras.
