Been with Sky for many years now, but our Sky box has been playing up recently and also our VCR so have been thinking of going for Sky+ but the cost has been putting me off :(
Anyway have been offered a Sky+ box from a friend who has upgraded to Sky HD so i'm just wondering what we would have to pay to be able to have Sky+ if we already have a box. Do we need a new dish to recieve Sky+?
Also can we just use it as a replacement for our ordinary Sky box, minus the Sky+ features?

TIA
Errrr...come back later ;)

You can use it as a standard sky box with just 1 feed. To use the sky plus features you would need a twin or quad LNB (thing on the arm of your dish) and another cable running from that to your receiver.. You would also have to have a sky package for sky to activate this service..

Thanks for the reply, i thought as much lol

So are we any better off getting the secondhand box, other than a replacement for our current box, or would we be better off going for a new deal from Sky?
I'm tempted to phone them to cancel and see what they offer us, like many people have done, but i'm afraid we will get sod all lol

  • I would try the box from your friend.. Fitting a new LNB and running a cable quite a easy job unless you live at the top of a tower block.. You can pick up a new quad LNB from ebay for about 10 pounds and they come with universal fittings. They really are easy to fit.. You would have to phone sky to activate sky plus though.. Getting through might take longer than running the cable and fitting the LNB..:)

We do live in a first floor flat so that could be a problem but may be able to reach it through leaning out the window lol
Will try it as a standard Sky box first anyway to see if it works ;)
And as for getting through to Sky, i know what you mean

In June, after searching forums on sky, i rang to cancel sky subscription, saying i had got a nightshift job and wouldn't be able to watch any decent programs, they offered me a reconditioned sky+ box for free, but i paid £49.99 for a new box, which had bigger hard drive. Had to take out another 12 month contract, but that was ok for me. They didn't change dish but put new cables. not sure if they still offer this though, should imagine they do.
