free memory stick

This is really just a gimmick. All of the adverts for this carefully neglected to mention the fact that the stick was only 32MB (not that it was much of a surprise). I guess if you really have a need to take some documents or spreadsheets around with you then it's fine. It will only hold around five or six MP3 music tracks. It's not really that useful.
All the device contains is a web shortcut to a Bourne Ultimatum website, which you have to enter the code on the side of it to enter. They could have just printed this information in the paper.
If you buy the News of World anyway (or don't mind disposing of 85p) then that's fine. However, the rest of us would be better putting the 85p towards a memory stick that has a reasonable capacity and that might actually be of some practical use (starting from 512MB but preferably 2GB).
I can't help thinking that these are obsolete units that had to be disposed of (just look at the "don't dispose of in the bin" logo on the back) and the best way to get rid of them was to get the NOTW to do the job for them (while also allowing them to hype this up as a great giveaway).0 -
i agree i just got a mirco sd 1GB which is tiny for 6.99 from play. much better to put the 85p and petrol towards that than a stick that i cant really put any thing on.... and is hugeIf i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0

well, after a long traipse around to get paper (before I read this) I was met by the staff at my local w h smiths (which is in a small city!) who told me that they never had heard of this, and no, they didn't have any. They then proceeded to tell us that they may get some on Tue, which is when their normal delivery comes, but by then the voucher would be invalid, so there would be no point going in anyway...
Rather annoyed, and considering writing to wh smith's and news of the world...
I know it's only a small memory stick, but it would hold a word document.0 -
That totally sucks and I sympathise. Unfortunately, I fear that the effort involved in doing that would outweigh the value of the device itself. Good luck if you choose to do so though. My point was really that no one should feel that they've missed out by not participating in this offer. However, someone like yourself who decided to get it anyway, and acted in good faith, should have been treated better.Rather annoyed, and considering writing to wh smith's and news of the world...
It would hold quite a few Word documents. It's not totally useless, just of very limited use (especially when compared to the low-cost+much-higher-capacity alternatives available elsewhere).I know it's only a small memory stick, but it would hold a word document.0 -
More often than not, you'll find that that's the trade-off between low-cost and no-cost.0

have got mine today, for what I want to use it for the £1 something i've spent isn't exactly something i'd moan about, especially considering my boyfriend got his which means we got 2 in 1 trip (1 lot of petrol about 3 miles). I think they have given a more sizeable USB stick but then we know that the news of the screws aren't that generous anyway.
although I have to say that it's a bit of a joke just putting a link on the stick to a webpage I mean why bother wasting the space when they could just print it on the bit of paper, only way I see it is that they say you can get access to something then people will buy it, even if you only need a 6 digit access code.0 -
I know my local wh smiths is not open on a Sunday, but always has the dvd or stuff ready on Monday morning, so am hoping it will be the same with this one.0

Judging by the number of folk who tried to pick them up from Woolworths, 32MB is sufficient. 64 or above would just be dangerous in the hands of these members of the public.
Pippa, your Smiths sucks. Most shops will just give you these things until they run out and if you look like you've made a reasonable effort to buy the paper.0
