Why are Holidays so expensive?

Cannot believe how expensive holidays are this year compared with the last two.
Last year we booked a week vacation to Olu Deniz Turkey in mid June, the price was quite reasonable. We liked it that much we returned in October for a similar price. This year the same holiday is almost two hundred pounds dearer at the same hotel with the same company. I have even looked and priced up vacations to Costa Del Sol, Brava and Blanca, all are way out of my price reach for a package. A week half board in Majorca is well over £600 for the two of us and that is before the mad rush when the Schools break up.
I think it will be camping this year.

does that include flights?
if not thats only £43 per person per night half board, what exactly do you expect for that kinda money and if it incudes flights it will be even less.
if you dont like the price dont pay it.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
We have always been opportunists where holidays are concerned booking around four to five weeks prior departure. Holidays have always been a fraction of what they currently are. Whether travel companies have sussed out the travellers habits I presume so.
I have to agree a £600 vacation with flights + add ons does work out rather expensive, but going off what we are charged in our own country, I suppose that aint bad. I suppose a week half board in Torquay would work out a similar price making a foreign vacation with virtual guaranteed weather more value for money.0 -

Well you have to accept that some years there'll be less availability or more demand (or both) meaning higher prices.
The demand is almost impossible to predict for the last few thousand to fill up the hotel beds.
Is the weather particularly bad here? is there a World cup on? is the £ doing well or poorly against the € ? + a dozen other variables.
It must just be one of those years where the demand is high.
I've just booked flights and a 2 bed apartment in Tenerife for 8 days at the end of the month for ~£1500 for 3 of us
Not the cheapest I've ever been away in June but not too bad, I did struggle to find a decent apartment though so it looks like there is good demand this year.
Some years you win, some you lose, c'est la vieChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
I think that price is incredibly reasonable. I thought initially you meant without flights!!
What did you expect to pay.?A week on the UK practically anywhere is going to cost you a lot more than that!
Also, schools in Scotland and Ireland are breaking up this month, so you are in holiday season anytime from now on.
The prices will reflect that.0 -
By the sound of it you have been spoiled over the years.
Last year we visited Turkey at this time, we booked with Jet2 holidays but like yourself we booked around four weeks before going. The price was £230 each with the addition of the visa charge. This year the prices are way over £300 each so I have to agree with other people that this year has a greater demand than previously.
Have you tried going to Eastern Europe? this time Prague is very hot, also are parts of Poland. If getting away is your priority then look around, there are other holiday countries other than Spain & Turkey.

Good job you don't have to book in school holidays. I'm sure you'd have a funny turn at some of the prices those of us who have to book then, have to pay.:D0

Last year we got a really good deal to Greece.
2 weeks s/c, flights, transfers, 20kg luggage each for less than £200 each.
However, we don't expect to be that lucky every time we book.0 -
Have you tried Hypermarketholidays? They have some great offers on for late bookings. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

To put the price into context for you, a week in the top Haven parks in the UK (July onwards), self catering, is over £1000 for the most basic caravan...If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0
