    Why email?

Give him a ring. You'll get an immediate answer and is much more difficult to ignore then email.

Are you sure you've got the right email? Are you sure he monitors his email? Are you sure he's not on holiday?

Ring and ask! Or just get someone else in.

    I can't believe you're still faffing about.

I have phoned him twice and left messages. No reply. I've got the right email, he answered on one occasion saying he would be round sometime during the week to do the job. No show and no further contact. I think he's the one faffing about! I will use someone else, just wondering if it is appropriate to leave negative feedback.

Has your experience with him been positive or negative?

Might other consumers benefit from your experience?

I think the situation is pretty common and it drives me up the wall!

    From my own experience:

    1) The first battle is getting folks round to view the job.
    2) The next is getting a formal quote.
    3) And the final hurdle is getting them to then commit to do the job.

Personally I don't chase workmen. If they don't turn up when they said they will to quote or if they don't follow up with a quote in a reasonable time period then I just don't have faith in them doing a good job. They could be the most skilled in the trade but it suggests they don't care about the customer, are just too busy (which means your job may be hurried), etc.

In your position I'd just move onto the next guy and chalk it down to experience.

And as others have said once you find good workmen hang onto them!

Seems to happen in almost every trade and yet they all complain there isn't enough work about.
I've often said i should have been a brickie or a plumber. You don't have to be a good one, just one who turns up.
