    Sorry, I was unclear. It wasn't a queue - I was the only person in line, waiting at the desk and no one was there. No sign to say it was closed or anything, it looked open apart from the lack of person to sell you a ticket! Normally the staff hide in a back office, but they come out when you approach the counter. It'd be interesting to know what guidelines there are though - how much time should one allow for buying a ticket? I normally plan 5 minutes as there isn't usually anyone buying a ticket, but I did cut it close once when the person before me didn't know how to use the machine and was on their phone...

    If the ticket office is closed, you can board without a ticket.

    It's unclear how long one can be reasonably expected to wait at a ticket office counter that appears to be open but there is no sign of anyone there.
    how much time should one allow for buying a ticket?
