Using Rail Voucher

Just used a rail voucher that I received due to a delayed journey. You are not allowed to use these online like most other vouchers. You can go to the station to use these but it has to be a main station so mine is about 7 miles away. I telephoned and it is now a premium number and the call was 10 mins. cost £1, please send voucher signed for which works out £2.27 and the fares are £1 dearer as they are web only fares. My £10.00 voucher has suddenly only been worth £5.73.
I know this has been highlighted in the past but it is now dearer as it is a premium rate line.
Would appear that they are trying to discourage you from using them.

If you use www.saynoto0870.com you can find a number that does not charge you £1. Also Signed for is £1.64. It would be good if you could use them online as well.0 -
Or just use it on the train??? giving it to the on board guard/ conductor
That would cost a bomb for longer journeys, and you wouldn't be able to book a seat. I've got two vouchers (100% of value I paid) from travel between Glasgow and London. Even using both of them together wouldn't make the price of a single on the day! Plus I don't think you can get change for them (even in vouchers) so I can't justify using them on local trains. It's annoying!0 -
Unfortunately he best way to use these vouchers is to buy a ticket in person at the station just before you travel.
Where we live and the route I travel on (peak) its no cheaper to buy online or in advance. It must be so annoying for people who don't travel often or for those when its cheaper to buy online.
I always claim delay replay (With my OH and I traveling everyday it soon adds up) & I always buy vouchers off friends and family who get them so they don't go to waste.
I'm always surprised at how many people don't do the delay replay esp for people who travel on London Midland. The app makes it really quick and easy to do.Recently married and loving it x0 -

It probably depends on the train operator. My local trains are all Scotrail, and some stations don't even have ticket machines. I've waited 10 minutes at an 'open' ticket office and given up, found the ticket machine broken or simply preferred to pay in cash (card only machines). I've never had a problem paying either on the train or at the end of my journey, although I'm hardly a representative sample!
It isn't worth doing delay repay for some journeys, especially with season tickets. One journey I used to to regularly would've only got around £1 or £2 depending on how late - 30 or 60 minutes respectively. On a 17 minute journey that wasn't very often!0
