Travel insurance....delays caused by traffic.

Yes, I know its an old chestnut, but are there any insurance companies that cover you for missing a holiday due to traffice hold ups, NOT caused by a breakdown of your own vehicle? I know most dont appear to. Thanks, and how do you prove it.?

    How about:-

    as a result of:
    • Mechanical breakdown of or road traffic accident
involving the vehicle in which You are travelling; or
    • Cancellation or curtailment of Public Transport due to
adverse weather conditions, Strike or Industrial Action,
    mechanical breakdown, or road traffic accident;
    • An accident or breakdown on a motorway or dual
carriage way that You are travelling on which causes
    an unexpected delay.

Probably not for missing a holiday but maybe pay for alternative travel if you miss your booked departure

Most insurance covers you for missed flights due to traffic delays when using public transport.

You can get proof off the transport provider of the late arrival.

Try Sainsbury's - I insure with them, and delay caused by traffic/weather is covered on their more expensive insurance.

Make sure you telephone and ask the specific question.

That one is from Post Office - just the first one I looked at (not a recommendation)

I looked at the Sainsbury's one mentioned above and can only see one level of cover which only seems to include delays on public transport.

That's why I suggested ringing them. When I did exactly that, it was confirmed (after checking) that my insurance covers delays en route to (for example) the airport, provided sufficient time has been allowed for the journey. That, of course, could prove a moot point...

But youve still got to the "Public Transport" first, unless your very lucky & can walk it with luggage.
