    They are empowered to enforce the regulations in the British Waterways Act which also includes revoking your boat licence so would think that they can take court action if necessary.

    I don't think they can levy fines but can use the courts to make their 'fines' smaller than your court costs

  • There is a distinction between a charge and a fine, the latter they are not legally allowed to do. That's why these are being labeled as charges by them.

    I would have thought the signs must have to state the exact terms and conditions, and who and how to pay before any charge could be enforced in court ?

    It seems fair so everyone can have a short stay . They don't want people mooring there permanently for free. Before you know it its clogged up with free loaders who take but don't give
